A free Prism video converter is available for compressing .avi and other files for publication.  The Microsoft MPEG-4 Video Codec is particularly efficient for this purpose, and you may be able to compress raw files by a factor of 20 with this.  In some cases (TOL videos) you will have to right click save link as with your mouse on an icon or link to download some of the videos here that are in Apple's QuicktimeTM.  Videos posted at the TOL site by R.
