Note on illustrations. This introduction to classification of Salticidae includes only species defined by diagnostic illustrations in the taxonomic literature, arranged by similarities of embolus and spermophor. Images are displayed as thumbnails to save space and allow for rapid scanning of theoretically closely-related species. Thumbnails are small versions of illustrations in other parts of the monograph, whera are displayed together with particulars of their sources and permissions.

Gen. Hyllus C. L. Koch, 1846 (39 species)

Type species Hyllus giganteus.
DIAGNOSIS. Bulbus oval, embolus thin, sclerotized, broadened by white membranous[?] structure. Tibial apophysis short, stumpy, its anterior edge broad, divided into irregular, sclerotized "teeth". Epigyne with anterior depression delimited by semiarching edges of copulatory openings, followed by broad arches of entrance chamber of copulatory ducts, partially translucent through tegument. Thin-walled copulatory chamber make half a circle, bends and pass into narrower, thick walled, heavily sclerotized duct, doubling back and passing, after another bend, into spermathecae. Body shape characteristic, with robust, high carapace, broadest at face but gradually narrowing, specially in thoracal part. Sides of carapace in males with characteristic white streak, broadening posteriorly, often diagonal. Abdomen lower and longer that carapace, gradually narrowing. Robust spider, often large. Diagnostic drawings below are integral part of definition.
