GALLERIES OF SALTICID PHOTOGRAPHS, by photographer

http://www.peckhamia.com/photographers

Appearance of photographs for this collection is selective.  If you know of photographs or photographers who should be included, or can assist with the identification of any of these spiders, please contact D. E. Hill (platycryptus@yahoo.com).

These are galleries of featured salticid photographs that are available for general use or distribution subject to a Creative Commons license.  The license applicable to each work is given in the respective caption. Many of these photographers, and photographs, can be found at the FLICKR site, and where applicable, FLICKR names will be given here.  Because higher resolution photographs are presented in the galleries, the number of photographs per gallery will be limited, and a single photographer may appear in multiple galleries.  The gallery number is given after the name of each photographer, below.  Some popular categories of Creative Commons licensing are given below the list of galleries, for reference,

Originally, our intention was to exclude photographs that do not permit derivative works from this collection.  However, upon further reading of Creative Commons license terms, it is now understood that no derivative works photographs can appear in an unmodified form, as part of a collection.  Thus they can be useful in that context.  Simple Attribution or Public Domain dedications are the best licenses to use if want your work to be widely used for scientific purposes.

Feeding salticid from Hong Kong

Female Siler from Hong Kong feeding on leaf hopper (heteropteran).  The raised position of legs I may be part of a visual display, but it may also represent an attempt by this spider to limit contact with defensive chemicals associated with its prey [Photograph by Charles Lam (CharlesLam), use subject to Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 2.0 Generic License].
